Poached Pears

By Kristen Mercure

Looking for a dessert that looks deceptively complex, but only takes minutes to prepare?  Introducing: poached pears. With just four ingredients, this dessert is set to impress with its chichi looks and syrupy flavor – but it takes no time.  A great last minute dessert for your sweetie that says, “I care for you enough to step outside of my comfort zone and poach something.”

Poached Pears

1 Colombian Coffee K-Cup® pod, brewed at 8-oz. setting. Some suggestions: Green Mountain Coffee® Colombian Fair Trade Select, Folgers Gourmet Selections® Lively Colombian Coffee, or Eight O’Clock® Colombian Peaks Coffee.

2 cups water

1/3 cup brown sugar

4 Bosc pears, peeled, halved, and cored

Combine coffee, water, and brown sugar in large skillets.

Add pears and bring to a boil.  Lower heat and simmer for 8-minutes.

Carefully flip pears over using a spatula and poach another 10-minutes or until pears are tender and liquid has thickened to a syrup.

To serve, place each pear half in a bowl and drizzle syrup over the pears.  Top with a dollop of whipped cream or berries.

Enjoy your sweet treat!
