Veterans Day – Pease Greeters Welcome Troops Home

Today is Veterans Day – a day to honor American veterans of all wars. Here at Green Mountain Coffee we know how important the comforts of home are during a deployment and work to

support troops with great coffee. We’re also aware of the importance of these comforts right before deployment and when returning home. We work with Pease Greeters to welcome troops home as well as sending them off at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease, NH.

The Pease Greeters, who are a group of volunteers, mission is:

“·       To welcome troops passing through Pease International Airport on their way to, or from, Afghanistan or Iraq, or any other areas of conflict in any part of the world.

·       To create within the Pease Trade Port an environment that reflects the respect and high esteem in which we hold all veterans.

·    To promote broad participation by the general public in this welcoming of heroes, paying special attention to the education of school children

by instilling respect  and admiration for the troops through formal ceremonies for each flight.”

We provide coffee (around 1,000 cups per month!) and the Keurig brewers so that another comfort from home – great coffee, freshly brewed – is available to the troops as they pass through the airport. Food, gifts and ceremony are all part of the Pease Greeters send-offs and welcome-backs.

I encourage you to look through the Pease Greeters Photo Gallery on Shutterfly to see the Greeters in action. By looking at the photos you can see the impact on the soldiers’ faces as they come

down Heroes’ Walk – either leaving or returning from duty. I’m thankful for their and their families’ service and sacrifice. I’m also humbled by the work of Pease Greeters, who honor these men and women throughout the year, in the middle of the day and in the middle of night.
