Orange Cinnamon Buns: Brewing for the Great Outdoors

By Allie Hanson

Lakeside camping is one of my fondest memories as a child, waking up to the misty morning air overlooking the lake, playing yard games all day, and most importantly, cooking everything on a grill. Nothing beats something fresh off the grill, smoky and crisp, simply mouthwatering! Breakfast was always a challenge on the grill; without a stove pancakes and eggs were impossible, so we usually ate stale powdered donuts instead. Not fun.

You know what is fun?  Cinnamon rolls, but more specifically orange cinnamon rolls with a delicious Cinnabon® Classic Cinnamon Roll Coffee Icing, made right on the grill!  The recipe is so simple; I can’t believe I never thought of this when I was camping!  All you need is a grill, cookie sheet and a few ingredients…

Cinnabon® Classic Cinnamon Roll Coffee Icing

  1. Cut each orange in half, leaving you with 8 halves
  2. Remove all the insides on the oranges, leaving just the outer thick skin
  3. Remove all the uncooked cinnamon rolls from the can
  4. Roll each uncooked roll and place each one in an orange skin half
  5. Place all orange halves filled with a cinnamon roll on a cookie sheet
  6. Cover the entire sheet with tinfoil
  7. Place the cookie sheet on a hot grill
  8. Wait until the rolls raise above the edge of the orange peels
  9. Take them off the grill
  10. Cover rolls generously with icing: Whisk together powdered sugar and coffee in a small bowl until smooth
