Coffee BBQ Sauce for the Big Game

By Hannah Hassler

Even though my beloved New England team is not duking it out in this year’s big game, I am still planning on throwing a little party with friends and family. The clock is ticking down for the menu.  I have my go-to Rosemary Party Nuts and Shortbread Football Cookies on the list and now this Coffee BBQ Sauce is sure going to be on it, too.  It’s tangy, sweet and got a little bit of a bite. Perfect for those drumsticks or ribs you are thinking of making! Here’s the recipe, using Green Mountain Coffee® Organic Sumatra Aceh. Delicious enough to help me forget my team isn’t even in the big game… at least for a while!

Coffee BBQ Sauce

1 Cup Ketchup

1 Green Mountain Coffee® Organic Sumatra Aceh K-Cup® pod brewed at the 10oz setting

2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar

1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder

1 Teaspoon Onion Powder

1 Teaspoon Chili Powder

1 ½ Teaspoons Black Pepper

1 ½ Teaspoons Balsamic Vinegar

1 ½ Teaspoons Soy Sauce

Combine, coffee, brown sugar, onion, garlic, chili powder and ketchup in a saucepan.  Bring to a boil Reduce the heat and simmer 10 or so minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and sir in the pepper, soy sauce and balsamic vinegar. Once cooled, brush onto your cooked drumsticks or ribs and save a little extra sauce for dipping!
